Insert Symbols
This method must be used if you want to updated existing symbols with a new updated version.
In all other cases we recommend using the 'Symbols Panel' for inserting symbols that you use regularly.
Inserting symbols using the Insert menu
1
Before inserting a symbol it is recommended that you save your drawing, see Caution 1 and 2 in step 2 below.
Click on 'Symbol' (top part of button) which is located on the Insert menu as shown below.
2
The Insert Symbol box will now appear as shown below.
This box will show you a list of symbols already on your floorplan.
If the symbol you want is not shown in the list you can click on the 'Load' button to locate it on your computer. If you try to load a symbol that already exists on your floorplan you will get a message asking if you want to 'redefine' the symbol (see 2nd image below). If you click Yes, the symbol that exists on your floorplan will be replaced/updated with the one you just loaded.
CAUTION 1: If the new updated symbol is larger, in a different position or angle, your existing symbols may look different to how they once did so you will need to adjust them accordingly.
CAUTION 2: If you insert a Symbol and redefine an existing symbol, this cannot be undone. If you rememnbered to save your drawing before inserting the symbol, you can just close the drawing without saving and then re-open it, which is like a sort of Undo!
3
Select the symbol you want to insert and click the 'OK' button.
You can now move your mouse to where you want to insert your symbol, then click to place it.
You now need to set the rotation of the symbol by moving your mouse around in circles. If your symbol is rotating freely and you want to keep it straight, press and hold Shift on your keyboard, your mouse will then be locked at 45 degree increments, now just click your mouse when you are happy with the rotation.
NOTE: If you got the rotation wrong or if the size does not look correct, select the symbol and then click on 'Reset Symbol' as shown in the image below.
