Build/Convert Stands From Imported DWG
If you have received a floorplan in DWG format that has stands on, you can convert these to intelligent stands quite quickly using this function.
How to Build/Convert Stands.
1
Before converting the stands that are on the imported DWG you need to make sure that they have been created as polylines, the Build Stands tool will not work unless they are polylines.
To check if a stand is a polyline, just select one edge of the stand and all 4 edges should select at the same time as shown below. While selected, you can also press CTRL + i on your keyboard to bring up information on this entity, also shown below which confirms it is a polyline. Once you have confirmed it is a polyline, go to Step 2, otherwise read on.
If you select a stand edge and only that edge is selected (see pic below), it means the stand is made up of individual lines. In this case you will need to draw rectangles over the top of these stands but, before doing this we recommend you create the rectangles on a new layer such as - New Stands. Once you have drawn rectangles over all of the stands proceed to Step 2, otherwise read on.
If you select a stand edge and all the edges are selected but only one Red node appears in one of the corners, it means that it is a symbol. You will need to explode this symbol to see if the entities contained in the symbol are polylines or not, to do this go to MODIFY > Explode. Once the stand has been exploded select a stand edge again to see if it is a polyline. If it is then proceed to Step 2, otherwise go to the step above.
TIP: You may want to select all of these stands to explode them all at the same time, to do this select one stand and then click on MODIFY > Select All (the arrow below the text) > Select Layer, this will then select all of the entities that are on the same layer as the entity you have selected.
2
Now you have confirmed the stands are polylines or drawn rectangles in their place, you now need to check what layers the stands, stand numbers and company names are on. This information is needed for when you run the Build Stands function. To find out what layer each entity is on just hover over it and wait for a second, a Yellow information box will appear and tell you what layer it is on, I have done this for all 3 entities as shown below:
Note: Stand Dimensions and Areas are not converted because these are automatically calculated once the stands have been converted.
3
Now you have checked what layers the stands edges, numbers and names are on, click the 'Build Stands' button which is located on the INSERT ribbon.
4
The following dialog box will now appear:
Now all you need to do is select the layers you checked in step 2 above, making sure that you also tick the relevant tick boxes for Stand Numbers and Stand Names. Now click OK.
5
The program will search for the relevant entities on each of the above layers and convert them to intelligent stands which can be then manipulated using EFD's built in tools. The following message will appear after the stands have been created to let you know how many have been created, in this example it was just one.
TIP: To check that all of the stands have been created correctly, select all of the newly created stands by using the Stand List on the left - select the top entry, scroll down to the bottom then select the bottom entry while holding the Shift key. Now press the delete key to remove all of the new stands form the plan, this will then leave any stands on the plan that did not get converted. Make a note of these and then press Undo (CTRL+Z) to get your deleted stands back. Then zoom into the stands that need fixing and do this manually.
Things to Note:
1. Stand numbers must be fully within a stand boundary for them to be converted properly.
2. Stand names must be fully within a stand boundary for them to be converted properly.
3. We recommend running the Inspect Floorplan function after converting the stands to make sure no stands are overlapping/on top of each other.
