Re-create a Symbol
If you've created a Symbol but need to update it, follow the below instructions.
There are 2 ways to edit and update a symbol, both methods are explained below.
Method 1 - Edit the symbol directly
Use this method if you have saved a copy of your symbol to your computer.
1
Locate the symbol on your computer that you want to edit then double click on the file to open it in EFD. Symbols are just EFD files.
2
Edit the entities as required and save the Symbol, FILE > Save.
3
You can now insert that symbol onto a floorplan.
If you want to update symbols that already exist on a floorplan to this new one, insert the symbol using the 'Insert Symbol' method.
Method 2 - Edit the symbol 'in-place'
Use this method if your Floorplan that contains the symbol is open.
1
Select the symbol you want to edit and then click on 'Reset Symbol' on the menu that appears at the top of your screen as shown in the image below.
2
With the symbol still selected, click on 'Explode' on the menu that appears at the top of your screen as shown in the image below.
Exploding the symbol will then allow you to edit the individual entities as required, so do that and move to step 3 when ready.
3
Now you have edited the entities, you are ready to Build/update your Symbol.
Select the updated entities then go to MODIFY > BUILD > Build Symbol as shown below.
TIP: You can also initiate this function by using the default Hot Key ' B '
Select an insertion point for the symbol, we recommend using the same insertion point as before to avoid any misalignments once the symbol has been updated. This is important if you have many of these symbols on your floorplan already.
A message will now appear asking if you want to 'redefine' the symbol, this just means overwrite and update, which is what you want do do, so click Yes.
Your symbol has now been updated along with any other symbols with the same name that exist on your floorplan, so if you have changed anything considerable on the symbol, check over your floorplan to make sure the new updated symbols look ok.
If you want to save a copy of this symbol on your computer for future use, go to INSERT > Symbol, locate your symbol in the list and then click the 'Save' button located at the bottom, now just select a location on your computer to save it.
