Long Filename/Folder Path Error

If you receive a message similar to the above where the first part of the message matches the Red highlighted text above, this means you are trying to save a drawing with a very long name or to a folder which exceeds the amount of characters allowed by Windows, which is approx 256 characters.

In the example above I have opened a drawing from the versioning folder, saved that drawing which then creates another version of the drawing in another versioning folder, and so on and so on. If you have done this, it is very bad practice and should be avoided by following how to use versioning drawings here.

It could just be that the location you are saving your drawing to (including the file name text length) exceeds the 256 characters.

Below is an image of how the above example folder structure looks, and the text below that shows how long the path is (234 characters), so if you try to save the drawing again, this limit is exceeded.

To fix this problem you will need to go to FILE > Save > Save As and save the drawing in a location which does not include so many characters.
