Creating new Layers
Most Layers are created automatically when drawing intelligent items such as Stands, Gangway dimensions, Zones etc, but if the item is not intelligent such as a simple line, circle etc you will need to create a new layer for it.
You can also Copy a Layer which keeps the same properties as the layer you are copying, which may be more convenient.
Creating a new Layer
1
On the HOME menu, click the 'Layers' button and then 'Layer Manager'.
2
The Layer Manager dialog box will now appear as shown below (yours will show different layers).
We recommend that the 'Use Groups' option is ticked because this helps keeps the layers organised, we will explain the Groups below.
Now click the 'Add' button to create a new Layer.
3
After clicking the Add button, the below box will appear which will have the shown options.
Once you have set the options as required, click OK.
Name : This is the Layer Name, it must be unique.
Group : Select or type a group name to group this with other layers.
Colour : Select the colour for the layer. This will change the colour of the entities on this layer unless those entities colours have been explicitly changed.
Style : Select the line style for the layer. This will only change the appearance of entities that contain lines, circles or arcs such as stand outlines.
Visible : Set the layer visibility. Whether this layer is shown on-screen or not.
Locked : Set the layer locking. If locked, all entities on this layer cannot be selected.
Plot : Set the plot option. When ticked, any entities on this layer will be printable and exportable UNLESS the layer is also set to not Visible. Use this option when things need to be shown on-screen but not printable/exportable, such as adding notes for yourself.
4
After clicking OK above you will get back to the main Layers box as shown below which then shows your new layer.
If you are going to draw things onto this layer straight away, you need to select the new layer and then click on the 'Set Current' button at the bottom. Or if you want to move an existing entity onto this new layer please see this page on help with moving entities onto different layers.
IMPORTANT: After adding a new layer, and when you click OK to close the Layers box, that layer and the settings you gave it will be saved to all of your views e.g. if I create a new layer which is Visible and Locked, every existing view you have will store this layer as Visible and Locked. If you want to change the layer settings for individual views click here.
